The Queensland Government is currently in the process of seeking feedback relating to proposed updates to the Accepted Development Requirements for Operational Work that is Constructing or Raising Waterway Barrier Works. Some of the changes targeted through the document include more concise wording to more clearly relay the information within the guidelines, and formatting updates.

Within the Table of Changes, some notable proposed amendments include:

  • Inclusion of additional information of how accepted development requirement users can self-assess the type of waterway barrier, where it is present on the ground but not displayed on the Queensland waterways mapping.
  • Changes to culvert requirements to provide more beneficial passage for fish.
  • A requirement that all temporary waterway barrier works will be subject to a notification process, including works associated with permanent works done under the accepted development requirements.
  • Updates to temporary waterway barriers (such as reinstallation, and relocation of barrier) to prevent circumventing the calendar day requirements of the accepted development requirements.
  • Updates to the placement requirements, methodology, and measurements of multiple waterway barriers.
  • Post-works notification forms are to include details of suitably qualified persons.

For more proposed changes, see the ‘Table of changes’ within the Document library section of the website linked below.

The above changes are currently in the proposal stage, and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) is seeking feedback for these changes.
